OK! I admit it!!! I relapsed a few months ago. I had been doing the program and everything, got through eight weeks…and relapsed. The pressure was just too much, and I was so busy with work at my first job and work at my second job and like, you know, watching tv and stuff to RELAX after all that working and I just cracked. That’s right…I quit running and went back to the couch....

autism and rain →
Whew. All the kids with high-functioning autism were WILD today, and thinking about it, my only hypotheses were:
They are extra wound up because this is their last “Transition to Middle School Group” and they love me and are anxious about leaving me
They ALL did not take their medications today
It’s a side effect of the rain
And then I remembered reading about some quack...
chick lit...or literature?
Recently I was looking through the house for a book to re-read. I love re-reading some of the same books over and over (I’d rather do this than read a new book most times…I suppose I am cognitively lazy in this sense), and settled on The Mermaid Chair (by the same person who wrote The Secret Life of Bees…but I don’t remember who that person is right now. Sue something. OK...

Pirates? Really???
This might show my ignorance of political matters, foreign affairs, and speed boats, but someone has got to say it.
Pirates? Really???
I remember when I first read about this pirates brouhaha on cnn.com. I thought the article was a joke at first, for real. “CNN is paying homage to National Talk Like a Pirate Day! Awesome!” But then there kept being more articles, and now months later...

Dear Katie Brady,
I went to the barber to get a haircut and then my mother and I took the bus downtown and we went to the Yogurt Pump for yogurt and then we went to the church because I had to go to the bathroom and then we took the bus back to pick up my mom’s car at my barber shop and then we drove back up the hill to my mom’s house. Tonight we went out to eat for dinner at...

Tips on the art of doing nothing in Washington DC
An actual email from an actual professor to an actual student. Hopefully a reminder for all of us to slow down and enjoy Spring….
Dear Students I have articulated my cherry blossom day policy as follows. If past experience is any guide, over the next few weeks, there will be one or two days when the weather will be perfect and the cherry trees will be out in full force. I would urge you to...

A long time ago, I used to call myself a runner. I ran track (1600m, 3200m, 800m and 4x800m) and cross country, and although I was not very fast, I was pretty good at running a long ways (as in like 15 miles). Question: what the hell IS the triple jump??? I mean, why not just jump once and see who goes the farthest??? It’s about as ridiculous as the steeple chase although that is more fun...
